In two weeks time it will be all action for Raglan-based singer-songwriter Lucy Cioffi, filming her first ever music video, a Victorian-doll styled shoot, at Woodlands historic homestead and gardens in Gordonton, Hamilton.

“It’s pretty exciting really, it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do but never thought I’d get the chance to,” said Lucy.

After submitting her song Silent Tears and a concept for a music video, Lucy beat out 15 other entrants to win a prize worth around $2000 filming with Hamilton-based production company Indiefilm.

Meeting the young Indiefilm team at the Waikato Music Expo held in April this year, Lucy says they have been “so supportive,” in bringing her ideas to fruition.

The shoot is set to be a stylish occasion with successful NZ fashion designer Annah Stretton, providing a beautiful dress to set the scene.

“Annah liked the song and wanted to get on board,” says Lucy who contacted the designer after discussions with Indiefilm lead to the Victorian era, doll theme.

Lucy says the song is about “sometimes not being able to say the things you may want to,” and the Victorian theme is a reflection of that repressed feeling.

Performing under the moniker Little Lapin for the last eight months, Lucy was previously involved in four-piece folk-pop band The Hand Me Downs. Since going solo, she has been busily working away at releasing her EP as well as performing at the Khuja Lounge in Auckland.

Describing her new sound as “still indie pop-folk” but with a touch of nostalgia and sophistication, things have been pretty full on for Lucy since being told of her win about a month ago.

With everything from the filming to location to wardrobe and makeup falling into place, she will be heading in to two full days of filming in a couple of weeks.

Having dreamt of doing movie scores as a child, Lucy says “I just think it’s amazing. I love music and art and being able to combine the two is really spcial.”

While juggling a full time job, Lucy is set to release the video for her single, Silent Tears, in September this year, with her EP planned to be released around December.
