Cafe offers more than coffee

Nikau Cave and Café in Waikaretu, which is just one hour north of Raglan, is doing its part to pull people out of winter hibernation by holding a range of spring events.

This Friday West Auckland singer songwriter Sunny Ray will perform at 8 pm, with pizzas available from 5:30pm. Admission is $10. www.soundcloud.com/sunny-ray/it-about-me-sunny-ray.

On Tuesday 25 September craft cheese maker Katherine Mowbray will hold a cheese making course, featuring halloumi, feta, ricotta and mascarpone. Katherine has taught artisan cheese making for 20 years and aims to put people in touch with the hands-on process of producing a natural food product in their own kitchen. The course is from 11 am to 2:30 pm and is $120 for one person or $300 for three. www.cheesemaking.co.nz

Following the successful Ladies Evening there has been demand for a Men’s Night. On Saturday 29 September Olympic weightlifter Richie Patterson will speak about the behind-the-scenes experience of an Olympian. Start time is 6:30pm and Richie will speak at 7 pm, followed by dinner. Admission is $40 which includes a three course meal.

In October two first aid courses will be held, Tuesday 2 October the full day course, First Aid as a Life Skill and on Wednesday 3 October a half day course, CPR + Basic First Aid for Teenagers. See www.first-training.co.nz for more information and bookings.
