Matapihi exhibits original NZ art and you also have clothing and jewellery. Tell us about those designers and their collections.
A unique local designer is Lin Van Craenenbroeck. Her label ‘Moz-Art’ is inspired by Spanish artist Gaudi and elements of nature

‘Moz-Art’ creates a unique mosaic-style of wearable clothing. Bringing colours, shapes and different materials together, her collection is truly striking.

Local artist Yann Bordier’s label ‘TIDEMARK’ includes hand made one off copper, bronze, silver and gemstone adornments. All of her jewellery is hand fabricated – using metal clay.

Matapihi also has a collection from local designer Freddy Chur. ‘Sistahood’ is a women’s eco knitwear label, simple, soft and playful. We stock casual street styled harem pants and a range of great tops.

Local Artist Jette Jespersen makes lush feather earrings with freshwater pearls, Magnesite, charm drops and unique delicate necklaces.

Another amazing collection is from ‘HeartBeads’ incredible glass jewellery. Every single item of HeartBeads glass art jewellery is all made here in Raglan by Peter who has his own silversmithing studio.

We have a range of Tee’s by Totaea Rendell, who is based in Tauranga. His brand MOKO – Standing for Unity, Respect & Aroha is inspired by contemporary Maori & Polynesian art and design. MOKO offers something meaningful – a brand with substance and style that embraces a diverse and cultural mix who are proudly…. KIWI TO THE CORE..

How has Matapihi evolved over the last few years?
Matapihi now has five Artisans who are working and contributing to the gallery so we now have a collective.
This has been great for them and the gallery – each artist can show their own work on display and talk directly to it.
Matapihi is constantly growing as new artists from around the country share their work in the gallery. Matapihi is always open to new artists, so feel free to ask us about getting your art in the gallery.

What can Matapihi offer woman in terms of style?

NZ home grown original style. Art crafted by local and national artists for the environment you live in. Buying NZ made or designed is true style.
If you could give one piece of style advice what would it be?

Be yourself wear what makes you feel great and enjoy your uniqueness.

What is your favourite piece of jewellery you own?
My current favourite piece is an original hand woven macramé Turquoise and silver necklace.

What do you like about autumn and winter?
The colours of autumn are so inspiring especially the westside sunsets and it always feels awesome to wrap yourself up in a woollen coat with boots come winter.
