Is Vinnie’s fast becoming THE venue for live music in Raglan? The popular cafe/restaurant has supported a number of great acts over the past few months and there’s more to come. The rest of October sees not one but three stellar bands all lined up and ready to entertain you.
On Friday, 15 October Vinnie’s brings ELLIOT BROWN to the stage. Elliot Brown (and The Candy Caps) is a 25 year-old solo-recording artist based in Mangawai, Northland. Influences include Hank Williams, Bill Monroe, Tom Paxton, Radio Head, the Pixies, Creedence Clearwater, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Kris Kristofferson but don’t let the influence of these legends fool you into thinking you’ve heard anything like his craft before. Elliot Brown music fits within several genres, including modern American folk, alternative and classic rock, and modern alternative country. Doors open at 8:30. $5.00 c/c.
Next, by overwhelming popular demand, DAVE MAYBEE BAND returns on Labour Weekend, 24 October. Dave debuted this new band, which consists of some of the finest musicians in Raglan, at Vinnie’s back in September. With influences including Bob Wills, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Ry Cooder, the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana this looks, once again, to be a night to remember. Sunday 24 October, 8:30 to 11:30pm, $10 cover.
Then on 26 October dream-pop folk artist JOHN WHITE comes to Raglan. Squeezing a night at Vinnie’s into his New Zealand tour, the Dunedin-based artist is promoting his third album release “The Inkadies”. Recorded in Madison, Wisconsin by friend and fellow singer/songwriter Tom Hanson the album gathers guest musicians from Madison’s lush music scene.
Doors at 8:30, $10 cover.
