Karioi Classic
Come and take part in our 3rd Karioi Classic 46km mountain bike ride on Sunday 29th July 2012.
The race starts at Raglan Fire Station and finishes at the Kopua Domain. The route itself takes riders around our beautiful Mt Karioi, it has breathtaking views of Raglan, Aotea harbour, Mt Taranaki and our famous surf break, Manu Bay. There are winding uphill climbs on gravel roads, and speedy downhills. Spectators and supporters can also enjoy the race, a little more leisurely, shopping, nice food, great coffee and a beach walk.
For 2 years in a row, Sheldon Gorter of Hamilton has won the title of King of Karioi. Who will it be in 2012? Marguerite Ritchie and Raewyn Morrison have been our Queens so far. Hopefully we will get a clash of the queens this year.
New this year : KARIOI DOUBLE BUSTER, going around once is not enough, well die hards can go around the mountain twice .
Also new is KARIOI RETRO STYLE, Raglan’s version of the famous L’Eroica race in Tuscany on the Strade Bianche. This race is open to riders with bikes pre 1980.
So come and have a go, it’s lots of fun and enjoy the West Coast hospitality.
