Sustainable September is underway!
Whaingaroa Environment Centre coordinates the annual month-long series of workshops and events.
WEC works with Xtreme Waste, Raglan Community House, Environment Waikato, Te Mauri Tau, Parito Yoga Retreat, Old School Arts Centre, DOC, Arocha NZ, Whaingaroa Bee Club, local community gardens and Solscape Eco Retreat to arrange the month’s events. It’s amazing to see such widespread support.
WEC has been running Sustainable September successfully for seven years, and the energy keeps on going.
The goal of Sustainable September is to educate and upskill our local community, reducing the need to rely on outside resources. Workshops focus on growing food, swapping clothes, composting, protecting our natural environment and learning how to increase our sustainability.
Features so far include a pest control workshop with DOC, trap deployment on Karioi with Arcoha, a pizza oven workshop, and an environmental film night. Attendance has been great, with so many enthusiastic tutors and participants.
Coming up… another seed raising workshop at WEC (Sep 27th, noon, $5 koha) and film night at Old School Arts Centre (Sep 20th, 7:30pm, $11), a morning of yoga and sustainability at Parito (Sep 28th, 6:30am, koha). Find out more at www.whaingaroa. org.nz or drop into WEC at the Town Hall.
