We recently chatted to Nikky Jansen – Medical Herbalist and Naturopath.
Tell us about what you do?
As a member of our Raglan community I participate by sharing my knowledge and skills as a medical herbalist and naturopath.
How did you get involved in herbalism, what training is required?
My training began in 1990 as a NZ Comprehensive Nurse which I practiced and loved doing in many different countries until 2001. Then the opportunity to broaden my skills came via gardening and landscaping in the UK which helped me blend these two passions – health and nature – to plant based medicine, and gained a Diploma in Medical Herbalism. I have now completed a Bachelor of Natural Medicine and am a member of the professional body NZAMH.
What kind of problems can you help people with?
Herbal medicine can treat almost any condition, both acute and chronic, that patients might see their doctor for. It is extremely effective for treating disorders of the nervous, digestive, immune and hormonal systems. Herbalists know when a condition is best seen by another health professional and will refer when appropriate.
How long is a consultation and what does it involve?
You can expect a comprehensive consultation which includes a detailed case history usually at least an hour for the first appointment, individually prescribed herbal medication, diet and lifestyle suggestions to further influence general health, confidentiality and professionalism.
What the best piece of advice you can give?
The best advice I could give is to actively participate in your own healing, seek options that empower and support this for you and your family.
How can you be contacted and where are you based?
I am based in Raglan at “Heavenly” corner of Main Rd and 2 Robertson St and can be contacted at 825 6885 or 021 1806198.
