You can now recreate two of The Shack’s favourite dishes at home. The Raglan café has had two of its recipes included in the New Zealand Café Cookbook, which was released recently by Penguin.

Justin Thomson, who has owned The Shack for the past four years with his wife Alix, says cookbook editor Anna King-Shahab approached them last year with a brief to select a couple of their best-loved dishes.

The two dishes they chose were the Pork Belly Baguette and the Crushed Green Peas, Poached Eggs, Feta, Mint and Dukkah.

The Shack’s two recipes have been put with other recipes from about 50 cafes from around the country in the cookbook, showing cooks how to recreate these top cafe signature dishes at home.

“It’s a lovely book. It’s been well put together.”

Justin says being included in the cookbook alongside some “exceptionally good” cafes from all over New Zealand was very flattering.

“A bit of recognition is always nice,” he says. “We work really hard at what we do so it’s like a reward.”

The New Zealand Café Cookbook is available from The Shack for $50 a copy.
