It has been a long time coming but the bike trails project in the pine plantation at Wainui Reserve has finally been granted consent from both Waikato District and Regional Councils.
Raglan Mountain biking Club has also been granted an Authority from Historical Places Trust relating to the existing historical sites located in the pine plantation.
The club had to make sure that the proposed grade 3 level mountainbike trails will not have an impact on the historical areas.
Weather permitting, start of the trail build is planned for early August and would take approximately 7 weeks to complete.
During the works, a Tainui Iwi representative and an Opus archaeologist will be on site for cultural monitoring.
Raglan Mtb club is very excited about this project and hopes that the trails will encourage WDC to develop a better and safer cycling network in the future, to provide locals, families and visitors the option of exploring Raglan by bicycle instead of by car.
